  • CK One Shock: Now In Stock at Fragrance Mad

When Calvin Klein, at the time most famous for underwear and jeans, released the pioneering unisex fragrance CK One back in 1994, nobody could anticipate the global success it would achieve. Klein broke down boundaries by developing one scent that could be used for both men and women, rather than individual scents for each sex, and the ploy worked wonders. CK One was phenomenally successful, becoming the bestselling fashion brand fragrance of the 90s, and continues to shift millions of units worldwide every year.

In 2011, CK returned to the One premise, but this time surprisingly chose to release different scents for men and women under the new name of CK One Shock. We’ve got both in stock now at Fragrance Mad. CK One Shock for Men is a spicy oriental fragrance, with notes of cucumber, clementine, and lavender at its top; a heart of pepper, basil, osmanthus, and cardamom; and base notes of tobacco, amber, patchouli, and musk. I sprayed some in an airport a while back and my girlfriend went mad. She’s sadly since been sectioned, but now we’ve got it in stock I’m still going to pick up a bottle. CK One Shock for Women is an oriental floral perfume, made up of top notes of poppy, pink peony, and passion flower; heart notes of jasmine, chocolate, narcissus, and blackberry; and finishes with a base of vanilla, amber, patchouli, and creamy musk. Both scents are available now at Fragrance Mad, priced at £22.59 for a 50ml bottle.

  • Katy Perry Purr: Perfume Profile

Katy Perry exploded onto the popular music scene after eschewing her Christian Rock background and releasing the hugely successful single I Kissed A Girl in 2008. The song quickly became a global smash hit and catapulted Katy into the spotlight where she has remained ever since, releasing numerous hits from the 2008 album One of the Boys and its 2010 follow-up, Teenage Dream, as well as vocally-acting in The Smurfs. Katy has recently been in the news regarding her short-lived marriage to ragamuffin Russell Brand, but in a bizarre twist for usually media-slavering celebs, Katy has instead chosen to keep a low profile and not answer any questions regarding the divorce.

Still, all of this press can’t be doing her career any harm, and that’s good news considering she has a hot new fragrance currently tearing up the market. Purr was released in 2010 and is a gorgeous sweet scent, comprised of notes of red apple, peach, bamboo, and gardenia at the top; a heart of rose, freesia, and jasmine; and finishing with a base of coconut, vanilla, sandalwood, amber, orchid, and musk. Katy Perry Purr is available now at Fragrance Mad at the princely sum of £32.79 for 100ml, that’s 32% off RRP!

  • Jimmy Choo: Perfume Profile

Jimmy Choo was born in Malaysia in 1957, and travelled to the UK as a young man in order to study fashion design in London. Upon graduating in 1986, he opened a workshop in Hackney and began gathering comissions for fashion pieces. The area of the industry that he was most interested in was making and designing shoes, and it is this for which he became best known. Choo gathered notoriety throughout the 1990s, and gained a significant boost when his shoes became the footwear of choice of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie in the hit TV show Sex and the City. By 2001, Jimmy Choo the company was valued at £20 million, and Choo sold his 50% stake and moved into designing more high-end bespoke fashion pieces under the name of Jimmy Choo Couture.

Choo became the latest designer to enter the fast-paced world of fragrance when he formulated and released his eponymous debut fragrance in 2011. Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum is a seductive and sweet feminine scent, featuring notes of pear, mandarin orange, and neutralising green notes at the top of the perfume; a heart of orchid; and finishing with a sweet patchouli and toffee base. Right now you can snap it up at Fragrance Mad for the rip-roaring price of £60.99 for 100ml, a saving of 10%. A bottle of this classy scent under the Christmas tree would make for a very happy Samantha!

  • Rihanna Reb’l Fleur: The Hot Celebrity Scent This Winter

It’s hard to believe that Rihanna is still only 23, given that she’s one of the world’s all-time bestselling musical performers and has been at the top of the business since 2005. She was born and raised in Barbados but moved to the US in 2004 to pursue her career after signing a deal with New York’s Jay-Z- fronted Def Jam Records. From there, she released Pon de Replay, the song that kickstarted a career that has gone from strength to strength since, taking in such hits as Umbrella, Don’t Stop the Music, and S&M. So far she has sold over 20 million albums, and has become the youngest singer ever to have ten number one’s on America’s Billboard singles chart.

The benchmark in celebrity scents is still Britney Spears, as even though her popularity as a singer and celebrity seems to have saturated and steadied, sales of Fantasy are still exceeding all expectations and continuing to outsell not only other celebrity scents, but also those produced by fashion houses. Hot on her heels are old stalwart the late Elizabeth Taylor and newcomer Beyonce, whose Heat and Pulse fragrances have reinvigorated the market. It seems though, despite the market being flooded with scents from anyone who’s appeared on a reality tv show, that the demand for celebrity perfumes is yet to reach breaking point, and if there’s space for Cliff Richard Devil Woman(!) then there must be plenty for someone as famous and hip as Rihanna.

For her first foray into the world of fragrances, Rihanna has created Reb’l Fleur which, given her current popularity and the success of celebrity fragrances in general, looks set to become one of the world’s biggest selling scents over the next couple of years. Reb’l Fleur is a beautiful sweet scent with top notes of plum, peach, and red berries; a heart dominated by coconut, which is supported by tuberose, hibiscus, and violet; and finishes with a base of vanilla, patchouli, amber, and musk. Reb’l Fleur is brand new and at Fragrance Mad you can pick up a 100ml bottle of Eau de Parfum for just £29.49, a mighty 20% off RRP! And if you like that, just wait until Spring 2012 (seems a long way away in this freezing weather) when you can get your hands on Rebelle, Rihanna’s second scent.

  • Fans of the Dark Knight Rejoice: Gucci Guilty Now In Stock

Gucci have returned with a new flagship scent, Guilty, and have formulated both a masculine and feminine version to keep all of their customers happy. Fans of Batman will also surely be in rapture at the fact that the Guilty logo seems to have taken a great deal of inspiration from the beam that shines o’er Gotham City whenever Mr Freeze is raising Hell. Should you find yourself in a darkened alley stuffed with crims, the official press release boasts, simply raise your bottle of Guilty to the sky and a hero will be on hand to save you within seconds.

On to the facts based on truth, Guilty for Women is made up of sultry notes of pink pepper and mandarin orange at the top of the scent; it then moves into a heart of lilac, peach, and geranium; and finishes with base notes of amber and patchouli, resulting in an overall scent that is soft, breezy, and delicious. In stock now at Fragrance Mad we have the 50ml EDT at £42.79 and the 75ml EDT at £56.99.

Guilty for Men, on the other hand, packs a more citrusy punch, opening with notes of lemon and fresh lavender; continuing to a heart of orange flower; and ending with a base of cedar and patchouli. Gucci Guilty Pour Homme is available at Fragrance Mad in a 50ml EDT, priced at £39.99, or the larger 90ml which costs £47.99.

Gucci have a long history of producing fantastic fragrances that elevate their wearers a notch above the rest. These two are no exception, and at Fragrance Mad’s prices there’s certainly nothing to feel Guilty about, especially with the added protection from muggers that the bat-sign provides you. It’s more a question of personal safety than smelling great.
