• Katy Perry Purr: Perfume Profile

Katy Perry exploded onto the popular music scene after eschewing her Christian Rock background and releasing the hugely successful single I Kissed A Girl in 2008. The song quickly became a global smash hit and catapulted Katy into the spotlight where she has remained ever since, releasing numerous hits from the 2008 album One of the Boys and its 2010 follow-up, Teenage Dream, as well as vocally-acting in The Smurfs. Katy has recently been in the news regarding her short-lived marriage to ragamuffin Russell Brand, but in a bizarre twist for usually media-slavering celebs, Katy has instead chosen to keep a low profile and not answer any questions regarding the divorce.

Still, all of this press can’t be doing her career any harm, and that’s good news considering she has a hot new fragrance currently tearing up the market. Purr was released in 2010 and is a gorgeous sweet scent, comprised of notes of red apple, peach, bamboo, and gardenia at the top; a heart of rose, freesia, and jasmine; and finishing with a base of coconut, vanilla, sandalwood, amber, orchid, and musk. Katy Perry Purr is available now at Fragrance Mad at the princely sum of £32.79 for 100ml, that’s 32% off RRP!

  • Jimmy Choo: Perfume Profile

Jimmy Choo was born in Malaysia in 1957, and travelled to the UK as a young man in order to study fashion design in London. Upon graduating in 1986, he opened a workshop in Hackney and began gathering comissions for fashion pieces. The area of the industry that he was most interested in was making and designing shoes, and it is this for which he became best known. Choo gathered notoriety throughout the 1990s, and gained a significant boost when his shoes became the footwear of choice of Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie in the hit TV show Sex and the City. By 2001, Jimmy Choo the company was valued at £20 million, and Choo sold his 50% stake and moved into designing more high-end bespoke fashion pieces under the name of Jimmy Choo Couture.

Choo became the latest designer to enter the fast-paced world of fragrance when he formulated and released his eponymous debut fragrance in 2011. Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum is a seductive and sweet feminine scent, featuring notes of pear, mandarin orange, and neutralising green notes at the top of the perfume; a heart of orchid; and finishing with a sweet patchouli and toffee base. Right now you can snap it up at Fragrance Mad for the rip-roaring price of £60.99 for 100ml, a saving of 10%. A bottle of this classy scent under the Christmas tree would make for a very happy Samantha!

  • Rihanna Reb’l Fleur: The Hot Celebrity Scent This Winter

It’s hard to believe that Rihanna is still only 23, given that she’s one of the world’s all-time bestselling musical performers and has been at the top of the business since 2005. She was born and raised in Barbados but moved to the US in 2004 to pursue her career after signing a deal with New York’s Jay-Z- fronted Def Jam Records. From there, she released Pon de Replay, the song that kickstarted a career that has gone from strength to strength since, taking in such hits as Umbrella, Don’t Stop the Music, and S&M. So far she has sold over 20 million albums, and has become the youngest singer ever to have ten number one’s on America’s Billboard singles chart.

The benchmark in celebrity scents is still Britney Spears, as even though her popularity as a singer and celebrity seems to have saturated and steadied, sales of Fantasy are still exceeding all expectations and continuing to outsell not only other celebrity scents, but also those produced by fashion houses. Hot on her heels are old stalwart the late Elizabeth Taylor and newcomer Beyonce, whose Heat and Pulse fragrances have reinvigorated the market. It seems though, despite the market being flooded with scents from anyone who’s appeared on a reality tv show, that the demand for celebrity perfumes is yet to reach breaking point, and if there’s space for Cliff Richard Devil Woman(!) then there must be plenty for someone as famous and hip as Rihanna.

For her first foray into the world of fragrances, Rihanna has created Reb’l Fleur which, given her current popularity and the success of celebrity fragrances in general, looks set to become one of the world’s biggest selling scents over the next couple of years. Reb’l Fleur is a beautiful sweet scent with top notes of plum, peach, and red berries; a heart dominated by coconut, which is supported by tuberose, hibiscus, and violet; and finishes with a base of vanilla, patchouli, amber, and musk. Reb’l Fleur is brand new and at Fragrance Mad you can pick up a 100ml bottle of Eau de Parfum for just £29.49, a mighty 20% off RRP! And if you like that, just wait until Spring 2012 (seems a long way away in this freezing weather) when you can get your hands on Rebelle, Rihanna’s second scent.

Now, Burberry are looking to take themselves to the next level with the launch of new perfume Burberry Body, described by the firm as a brand, not a fragrance, launch, and referred  to as “the biggest launch we have ever done” by Chief Creative Officer, Christopher Bailey.

  • Hot New Scents at Fragrance Mad

We’ve had a great big delivery of new fragrances (don’t worry, we didn’t loot them), hopefully just in time to get you smelling great for your Summer hols, or if not there’ll be plenty of time to freshen up in the eight month winter that follows.

For Women: Thierry Mugler fragrances are always popular so we expect there to be no exception with his latest scent for women, the wine-drenched Innocent Rock. Megan Fox will surely be dusting down her underwear for another round of advertising, as Armani release the 2011 edition of their Summer version of Code. Code Summer is a light Eau Fraiche scent, perfect for those Code girls who want their perfume to be light and airy while they’re sat out drinking Pimm’s in the sunshine. Estee Lauder expand on two of their most popular fragrances, in the form of Sensuous Noir, a more voluptuous intense version of Sensuous; and Pure White Linen, a scent with added aldehydes for an ultra-fresh version of White Linen.

For Men: a couple of great summer scent in the shape of Issey Miyake l’Eau d’Issey Pour Homme Summer Edition, and the summer version of Armani Diamonds for Men. Marc Jacobs returns after the success of his Daisy and Lola (my favourite) perfumes, with his first scent for men, the pepperlicious Bang. It’s a bit of a love it or hate it scent: for some the pepper accords can be too strong, but others love the spicy tones. The office at Fragrance Mad is divided, but everyone loves the super-cool smashed-in effect on the bottle. Davidoff follow last year’s Champion with the hot new revved-up version, Champion Energy. You’re guaranteed to turn heads if you build up your muscles using the dumbell bottle!

As you can see, there are loads of great new scents just waiting to be discovered at Fragrance Mad, so come on down and grab yourself a bargain.

Those helpful hounds at TIGI have decided to discontinue a large part of their range, so you may not be able to find your old favourite for much longer on Fragrance Mad. But don’t panic! They’ve replaced all of the old models with shiny new ones, and they’re all available now at Fragrance Mad (plus, we’ve managed to secure a limited amount of end-of-line stock to keep you going with your old products). Deep breath: the Styleshots range is now for shaping and styling, the Colour Combat range gives you fantastic colour protection as you clean, and the brand new Rockaholic selection includes everything you need to rejuvenate tired hair. The Catwalk family has also been split into three distinct sections: Curlesque for curls and waves, Sleek Mystique for straight styles, and Your Highness for volume. So if you used to be a Superstar, try Epic Volume; and if being a Control Freak was your thing, head for Extreme Straight. • Beyonce Heat Rush: Perfume Profile

Beyonce Knowles began her career with the girl-group Destiny’s Child, but has since seen her individual career launch into the stratosphere while the rest of the group ply their trade in McDonald’s. After hitting the big-time with songs such as Independent Women and Bootylicious, Beyonce made the leap to solo success in 2003 with the chart-topping Crazy in Love and, by the time Destiny’s Child disbanded in 2006, Beyonce had established herself as the only member of the group likely to remain in the public eye.

Beyonce is now one of the most recognisable names in music, continuing to churn out hit after hit, and has also made the transition to a Hollywood star, garnering critical acclaim for her role in 2006’s Dreamgirls. Her first fragrance, the award-winning Heat, was launched in 2010 to rave reviews and huge sales, and now Beyonce is back with a new scent for 2011, Heat Rush.

I’ve managed to get hold of one for myself, and I think Heat Rush is a gorgeous fragrance, just perfect for the lovely weather that we’re having at the moment. It is a more vibrant and sparkling take on the original Heat, and is set to be one of the big fragrances of the 2011 Summer. The perfume contains notes of passion fruit, Brazilian cherry, and blood orange to open; a heart of mango, orange hibiscus, and orchid; and base notes of amber, musk, and woods to leave a sensual trail. We have it available in two sizes at Fragrance Mad: the 30ml Eau de Parfum is £19.79, while the 50ml is £24.79, and comes with a stylish Beyonce clutch bag as a free gift. Snap some up now to ensure you’re the envy of any dancefloor come the Summer holiday season!

  • W7 Shatter Nail Polish Now in Stock

We’ve just taken our first delivery of shatter nail polish by W7, a new nail varnish that allows you to get a dramatic salon-style effect on your nails without those salon prices. The polish works by being made up of incompatible chemicals which ensure that it does not dry evenly, and so cracks up when it dries. Layer shatter polish over any colour of polish that you have as a base and it will break up to create a cracked effect. Then simply finish with a clear top coat for protection and you’re on your way to sexy, attention-hogging nails!

The Shatter Effect polishes come in three colours: black, silver, and white, and our range of W7 polishes is so vast that there’s a colour (or five) for everybody. There are so many different pinks that you’d think they’d have run out of descriptions for them. The best news of all is that the shatter polish is part of our 3 for 2 across the W7 range, on top of the fact that they’re only £3.49 each to begin with. This means that you can pick up your base colour, a Shatter Effect polish, and a Diamond Clear Top Coat for a grand total of £6.98. Mix and match a different colour for every outfit that you own!
